The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission acknowledged Tuesday it could not, and would not try, to go further with its proposal to toll U.S. Route 422. There was just too much public and political opposition, its executive director said.

Hundreds of cars were caught late Thursday afternoon in what, at one point, was a 13-mile backup on U.S. Route 422 caused by an accident in the westbound lanes near Sanatoga. A local firefighter’s photos shows what created all the commotion.

Talk about ironic: a Pennsylvania contractor claimed Tuesday it had a deal to build a toll road and rail line at a cost of $7 billion. It was NOT referring to U.S. Route 422, however, where a similar-sounding proposal is still making headlines. Instead, this project would be in Alabama.
