SCHWENKSVILLE PA – It’s dinner. It’s a comedy. It’s a murder mystery. And it’s a fund-raiser for the Relay For Life effort to benefit the American Cancer Society … all rolled up into one.
The Relay’s DVCers Team – that’s shorthand for Devoted Volunteers For A Cure – will sponsor a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater production of the comedy “Lucy, I’m Dead” on May 4 (2013; Saturday), with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. in the Lenape Lodge at Spring Mountain Ski Area, 757 Spring Mount Rd.
Tickets cost $50 per person and include the first half of the professional theater company’s evening of entertainment at 6 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner at 7 p.m. and the concluding half of the show, according to team promoter Kelly Thompson. The program is recommended for those age 18 and older.
All proceeds from the event will be part of the DVCers’ contribution to the society for cancer research and therapies. With the lodge’s banquet-style seating, Thompson added, related parties can share a table.
The production takes place in the framework of the popular “I Love Lucy” television series, and its Club Babalu. The evening represents character Ricky Riccardo’s “big break. With Fred and Ethel brushing off their Vaudeville schtick, and a big-time producer in the audience, this could lead to Broadway!,” the show’s writers say.
“As a member of the audience you will get to see the crazy slapstick comedy that everyone has been talking about,” the writers add. “But will Lucy’s crazy schemes get in the way of Ricky’s success? Will Fred and Ethel’s constant bickering finally go too far? And who is the new headliner everyone keeps hearing about? When things go awry, Lucy has got some ‘splainin’ to do! Will Ricky’s last words be, ‘Lucy, I’m Dead’?”
