LIMERICK PA – Applications for a college scholarship to be awarded by the Simon Youth Foundation to a local high school student are available through Friday (Jan. 11, 2013) from the guest services center at the Philadelphia Premium Outlets, 18 W. Lightcap Rd. The foundation is a charitable arm of Simon Property Group Inc., which owns the outlet mall.
The national non-profit organization is offering $1 million in scholarships to at-risk students in every community that is home to a Simon property. Applications also can be downloaded here.
Any student graduating in the class of 2013 who lives within 50 miles of a Simon property is eligible. The program will award a one-time scholarship of up to $1,400 to students who plan to enroll in an accredited college, university, vocational or technical school.
In addition, an “Award of Excellence” will be given to the top candidate from among the scholarship winners that represent each of the nationwide Premium Outlets locations, including the Limerick operation. That student will win a $2,500 scholarship renewable for up to three years.
Scholarship recipients will be selected by Scholarship Management Services, a third-party administrator. Students are chosen based on a variety of criteria, including financial need, academic performance, leadership skills and participation in school and community activities. Those students who are the first in their family to pursue a post-secondary education will also be given close consideration.
