MAYBE THIS PONTIFF WELCOMES WINTER – The snow-covered statue of Pope John Paul II stood Tuesday (Nov. 27, 2012) outside his namesake high school in Royersford PA, with arms extended as though he actually welcomed the first day of winter weather there. Only three or fewer inches of snow covered surfaces around the borough, but the National Weather Service warned its real hazards arise Wednesday (Nov. 28). Many untreated roads would be slippery due to overnight freezing, it said, potentially making travel more accident-prone than the day of snow itself. Use caution, the service urged: although a road or walkway may only look wet, it could be coated with black ice.
