The Spring City concert helps students connect history with people, their teacher said
SPRING CITY PA – To show their appreciation for those who have served the country, students of the Spring-Ford Area School District’s Brooke Elementary School will sing patriotic songs Monday (Nov. 12, 2012) at 2 p.m. for their residents of the Southeastern Veterans Center, 1 Veterans Dr.
- This event has been added to The Post calendar.
The group of 24 third- and fourth-graders from Royersford PA, accompanied by teacher Jo-Ann Messer, will perform at the center that serves as a home for veterans needing medical, clinical and nursing care. Messer has developed a relationship with the Veterans Center over several years, and her students annually perform, write letters and collect needed items for residents there.
“Our students may learn through history lessons about the wars that have shaped our country’s history, but they may not always make the connection that the people who made sacrifices in those wars live right here in their own community,” Messer said. “Our visits to the Veterans Center help them make that connection.”
