COLLEGEVILLE PA – An international film festival, which is running throughout the fall semester at Ursinus College, continues Oct. 25 (2012; Thursday) with “The Sun Also Rises,” at 7:30 p.m. in the college’s Olin Auditorium.
Directed by Jiang Wen, the film (in Chinese with English subtitles) is loosely inspired by Ye Mi’s novel “Velvet,” and is a follow-up to “Devils on the Doorstep.” It drifts between Yunnan’s Shangri-la and the Gobi Desert to follow four narratives exploring the roles that culture and revolution have played in Chinese history.
Other screenings remaining in the festival series include:
Nov. 1: “Tomboy,” French, directed by Céline Sciamma;
Nov. 15: “Dolls,” Japanese, directed by Takeshi Kitano; and
Dec. 6: “Satin Rouge,: Arabic, directed by Raja Amari.
All films are free and open to the public, shown with English subtitles, presented at 7:30 p.m. in Olin, and followed by refreshments and conversation. For more information, call Dr. Colette Trout at 610-409-2432.
