The Posts On Health at Facebook
SANATOGA PA – If this sounds like putting the cart before the horse, well, that’s because it is.
The Post Publications, LLC – which publishes The Limerick Post, The Sanatoga Post and four other online news services in western Montgomery County PA – is launching another such service, called “The Posts On Health.” However, it is beginning first as a Facebook page, and then could migrate to its own website.
“That’s not normally how these things work, but there’s method in our madness,” says Post Managing Editor Joe Zlomek.
The Posts On Health is intended to serve a growing demand heard from Post publications’ readers for health-related news that focuses on local and regional hospitals, medical practices, nursing facilities, health care providers, and treatments and therapies.
“Because major changes in health care programs, and third-party payments for them, are due in coming months and years, we’re hearing from an increasing number of readers who want to know, in advance, what their local options will be for preventative and illness care. It’s our goal to ensure they’re well informed,” Zlomek notes, “and quickly.”
The Posts On Health page at Facebook officially opened Monday (Oct. 1, 2012).
With several new product launches under his company’s belt, Zlomek says he recognizes it will take time to fully develop a website as complete as those The Post Publications currently operates. The informational need, on the other hand, is pressing.
Guidance offered by several news organizations of which he’s a member prompted Zlomek to reverse the traditional introduction of website first, social media second. “And actually,” he adds, “part of the framework is already in place.”
The Sanatoga Post had “good success,” according to Zlomek, in an experiment it conducted during August (2012) with live reporting from the annual conference of the American Association of Diabetes Educators in Indianapolis IN. Its series of stories was called “Dealing With Diabetes 2012.”
“We earned some new contacts in the health care industry with it, attracted a new readership because of it, and created a PostsOnHealth Twitter account for it. Now all we have to finish is the hard work!,” Zlomek says.
