OBSERVING MULTIPLE BIRTH AWARENESS MONTH – Members of the Valley Forge Mothers of Twins and Triplets Club, above, were the hosts last month (April 2012) to the 42nd state convention of the National Organization of Mothers of Twins Clubs Inc. The event was attended by more than 300 mothers of multiples attended. It ended with the first Mother of Multiples 5K Run and Fun Walk at Wilson Farm Park in Wayne PA, below, during which 25 mothers and their children or pets walked and ran to the finish line. Local and national organizations used their observances of National Multiple Birth Awareness Month to discuss topics faced by families of multiples. They include what to know when expecting multiples, high risk pregnancy and pre-term labor, Twin-to-Twin-Transfusion Syndrome and other fetal issues, prematurity and physical problems associated with it, twins with special needs, the increased demands of parenting multiples, school placement and identity issues.
