LIMERICK PA – Ash Wednesday, the first day of the Roman Catholic faith’s season of Lent, will be marked in Limerick PA today by a topping-off ceremony of sorts at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish Church on Swamp Pike.
Steeples will be placed today (Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012), immediately following a 9 a.m. Mass, atop the church still under construction on the parish campus. Once the steeples are in place, church pastor the Rev. Paul Brandt will ride a construction lift 100 feet into the air to place a 10-foot cross onto the steeple of the bell tower, Archdiocese of Philadelphia communications specialist Meredith Wilson said.
All of the students from the parish school, as well as children in its child care center and many parishioners, will gather in the parking lot to witness this event, she said.
