COLLEGEVILLE PA – Remember those delicious home canned goods Grandma used to put up from her backyard garden? She wouldn’t recognize today’s canning procedures; they’ve changed dramatically over the years. To ensure modern cooks don’t endanger their family’s health by following out-of-date canning instructions, Montgomery County Cooperative Extension has scheduled two workshops next month to demonstrate proper home-canning methods.
Not produced the old-fashioned way, and therefore safer.
The three-hour classes will be held on Monday (June 6,2011) from 6:30-9:30 p.m., and again Tuesday (June 7) from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., both at the Montgomery County 4-H Center, 1015 Bridge Road (Route 113), Creamery PA. Participants will learn the latest methods of using a boiling water bath and a pressure canner. They will receive a comprehensive Cooperative Extension canning book and take home a jar of properly processed fruits and vegetables.
Registration is required and class size is limited; its cost is $40 per person or $60 per couple. For more information, call the extension office at 610-489-4315. Register online, here.
