LIMERICK PA – Wear any color you want, say associates of the Keller Williams Realty Group, 524 N. Lewis Rd., Limerick PA, but bear in mind that today (Thursday, May 12, 2011) officially is RED Day in the township.
RED is an acronym for “Renew, Energize and Donate,” a campaign created by the Keller Williams real estate sales franchise to denote its international day of service. Considered “one of the biggest volunteer events in the real estate industry,” according to local spokeswoman Gina Stango, its intent is to ensure the brokerage’s associates have an opportunity to “give where they live” by providing their time for community projects.
As part of the effort, Keller Williams Realty Group will support Operation Backpack – an organization that provides hungry local students with much-needed food – by collecting donated goods and supplies. In Pottstown PA alone, Stango said, more than 10 percent of its families live below the poverty level, and more than 60 percent of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunches.
The food drive begins this morning at 9 at the Limerick office, and continues weekdays during business hours through May 20. It will close as part of a 5-K Run and Fun Walk at Riverfront Park, Pottstown. Associates also will sponsor a blood drive today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., conducted by Miller-Keystone Blood Center at their Limerick office.
During last year’s RED Day observance, more than 35,000 Keller Williams associates participated in activities ranging from food and blood drives to cleaning up trash in public parks, doing yard work for neighbors in need or revamping gardens at nursing homes. They provided more than 150,000 hours of community service, Stango said.
