ROYERSFORD PA – Police say a woman, who was the only occupant when fire broke out shortly before 5 p.m. today (Thursday, March 26, 2009) in a single-family home at 372 N. Lewis Rd., successfully escaped with the help of emergency personnel and was being attended to in an ambulance on the scene. She apparently was not injured.

Firefighters from several local departments, meanwhile, brought their efforts and plenty of equipment to bear on extinguishing the blaze, which a police officer on the scene said “fully involved” the building. Royersford, Limerick, Linfield, Spring City and other fire departments, as well as police and emergency medical technicians, were among those responding to alarms.
Their battle against the fire was aided somewhat by a steady rain and only light winds.
The same officer said the fire began in the kitchen, but a fire official cautioned that a cause had yet to be determined.
The home is located just north of the Royersford Post Office. Fire police cut off and re-routed traffic at the intersection of North Lewis Road and Foxmeadow Drive, at the south end of the site, and at North Lewis and King roads, at the north end.
Billowing smoke from the fire attracted the attention of drivers on nearby U.S. Route 422.

Flames shoot from a cupola atop the garage.

Firefighters spray water into the home's back porch.
